Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This time, we focused on an important writing skill: organizing ideas before writing.
Good writing doesn't start with a sentence. It starts with organizing your thoughts.
By creating timelines and brainstorming important events from different stages of your life, you began preparing for a personal paragraph about changes in your life.
See you next week.
Towako
B1.2 #4 Having Small Talks Is Important in Our Daily Life
You listened to a narration about the importance of small talk and took notes while listening.
Afterward, you explained the content to a partner and discussed whether you enjoy talking with strangers.
Is the world changing too fast?
Making a Timeline to Plan Your Writing
Before writing, we studied how a timeline can help organize ideas.
Good writers often plan events in chronological order before they begin writing.
We looked at a model timeline and discussed how it helped make the paragraph clear and easy to follow.
You read a model paragraph and completed a timeline based on the information in the text.
You planned a technology-free day by creating your own timeline and sharing your ideas with a partner.
The goal was to practice organizing events before writing about them.
Write a paragraph about important changes in your life.
We checked the unit objective and began brainstorming ideas.
You thought about how your free time has changed throughout different stages of your life:
kindergarten
elementary school
junior high school
now
Before writing, we also reviewed the self-assessment checklist to make sure we understood what makes a strong paragraph.

Review:
Shadowing. => Review the example. => Students try retelling in pairs. (2
min.)
Example: Shingo and Annisa are
in an Indonesian restaurant. She says they must order nasi goreng.
It’s fried rice, but not like machi-chuka. Shingo is surprised to hear
‘machi-chika’, so he wants to say, “Who taught you about machi-chuka?” He
instead says, “Who does … you teach …”
Shingo and Annisa are looking at the
menu at the Indonesian restaurant. They will order
some satay, too. Shingo finds the word ‘Halal’. Halal means Muslims can eat the
food. Annisa says she has an amazing satay recipe. Shingo wants to say,
"Whose recipe is it?" but he instead says, “Who is … that recipe?”
Annisa
is explaining nasi goreng to Shingo. She tells Shingo that nasi goreng
comes with some fresh vegetables, prawns, and a fried egg. Annisa asks him,
“Which fried egg do you want, sunny-side up or crispy?” Unfortunately, Shingo
can’t understand the question.
Shingo and Annisa finished eating their
Indonesian meal. Shingo has enjoyed his first
Indonesian meal. He asks Annisa about a dry curry dish. She says it is rendang.
Shingo can’t understand the word, so he wants to say, “Can you write it down
for me?” but he can’t say the question.

Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This time, we looked at how something as ordinary as a book cover changed its role over time—from protecting pages to helping sell books.
We also continued studying the present perfect continuous, one of the most important tenses for describing actions that started in the past and continue into the present.
See you next week.
Towako
B1.2 #10 Book Cover
This time, you read a passage about the history of book covers.
The main idea was that book covers were originally used to protect the pages, but gradually became important marketing tools that help sell books.
We studied several advanced words and expressions, including:
fundamentally = basically, at the most basic level
emboss = make a design stand out from a surface
marketing = activities used to sell products
avid = enthusiastic
readership = a group of readers
of limited means = not having much money
We also looked at important grammar patterns such as:
What S V ...
What the covers of a book do is ...
keep A from ~ing
keep the paper from falling out
begin to see that ...
People begin to see that ...
Advanced reading is not only about translating English into Japanese. It is also about understanding how ideas are organized and expressed.
I've been waiting for Fred for an hour.
This week's key grammar point was the present perfect continuous.
Examples:
I've been waiting for Fred for an hour.
She's been studying since this morning.
They've been working all day.
This tense is used when an action started in the past and is still continuing now.
You practiced completing conversations and talking with a partner while paying close attention to the tense.
We also began studying the past perfect.
This tense is used to describe an action that happened before another action in the past.
You listened to the target sentences, reproduced them orally, and checked them in the textbook.
You practiced pronunciation and learned vocabulary related to relationships and communication.
Afterward, you completed a short text using the target vocabulary.
Building a strong vocabulary network will help you both understand and express more complex ideas.
