Lesson Report MEL-5 November 5, 2026

Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.

How are you doing?

This week, we completed ELST Listening A2.2 #26, the final listening exercise at this level!

In Q Skills, we focused on two important skills: digital literacy and reading information from charts, graphs, and tables.

We also watched a travel vlog filmed at Anchor Bay in New Zealand and practiced understanding information presented through video.

Remember, reading English is not just about understanding sentences. It's also about interpreting information and thinking critically about what we see and hear.

See you next week!

Towako

ELST Listening A2.2 #26

We practiced listening individually, checked the conversation together, and reviewed useful vocabulary and expressions before pair role-play.

Some expressions we discussed included:

  • pack / unpack — Put things into / take things out of a suitcase.

  • take a deep breath — Breathe in deeply, often to relax.

  • How come ...? — An informal way to ask "Why ...?"

  • a quarter after three — 3:15

Remember to record unfamiliar words and expressions in My 練習帳, together with their meanings in context.

Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing 1

Unit 3: How does social media change the way we travel?

Global Skills: Digital Literacies (p. 51)

We discussed how to use digital information safely and critically.

When reading travel blogs or social media posts, ask yourself:

  • Who created this information?

  • Why was it published?

  • Can I trust the source?

Beautiful photographs and positive reviews do not always tell the whole story!

Reading Skill: Reading Charts, Graphs, and Tables (pp. 52–53)

We practiced interpreting three types of visual information:

  • Bar graphs: Compare quantities across categories.

  • Pie charts: Show how a whole is divided into parts.

  • Tables: Organize information into rows and columns.

We examined survey results about popular travel destinations and a table showing cities with the most international visitors.

Before answering questions, remember to check the title, labels, numbers, and units.

The goal is to understand what the data actually tells us, rather than simply picking out numbers.

Video: Ruaridh's Vlog — Taking Photos at Anchor Bay (p. 54)

We watched a vlog about photographing surfers at Anchor Bay in New Zealand.

Some interesting details included:

  • Ruaridh used a zoom lens to photograph surfers from a distance.

  • He used his knee to support the camera because he had left his tripod at home.

  • The surfers wore wetsuits to stay in the water longer.

  • He also photographed the surrounding natural scenery.

We completed comprehension and summary activities to organize the information from the video.
