基礎英語-1 (5月号)

Monday: The two Kens switched their bodies. Were they able to fix it?

-        No, they weren’t.

ð American Ken has Japanese Ken’s face, and Japanese Ken has American Ken’s face now. American Ken’s karate coach says, “Ken! It’s time! Let’s go!”

 

Tuesday: What do both Kens think about being each other’s bodies?

-        They think they have no choice.

ð American Ken says, “I can be you.” He also says, “And you can be me!” They both think they have no choice.

 

Wednesday: Can American Ken speak Japanese?

-        No, he can’t.

 

ð American Ken loves Japan, but he can’t speak Japanese. American Ken has Japanese Ken’s mouth. So, he thinks it may be OK.

 

Thursday: Why does Hinako say to American Ken, “Silly!”

-        She says it because American Ken says, “Where do you live?” Japanese Ken is Hinako’s neighbor.

Japanese Ken is Hinako’s neighbor, but American Ken doesn’t know that. When he says to Hinako, “Where do you live?”, she says, “I’m your neighbor, silly!

 

Work in pairs. Try to retell in 2 min each. (Retry the same thing as Saturday)

中学生の基礎英語レベル２（４月号）

(p. 96-) Lesson 20

Listen and take notes. => Describe the situation according to the description on the textbook and their own notes. The teacher shares the example. => Students try retelling in pairs.

 

Example: Shingo is shopping at a 100-yen store. Then, a woman starts talking to him. When the woman asks Shingo about the water bottle price, he wants to say, “You can’t get discounts here.” He instead says, “No discounts.”

Shingo continues talking with the woman at the 100-yen store. When she finds a broken fork, he wants to say, “I’ll tell the shop staff.” He instead says, “Tell the shop staff.”

Shingo and Annisa found an item. A staff member starts talking to them. The item is an egg timer. He says, “The time may be different for large or small eggs.” Shingo can’t understand the meaning.

Shingo and Annisa continue shopping at the 100-yen store. Annisa says, “What are you shopping for, Shingo?” He wants to say, “Let me see …,” but he can’t say anything in English.
