Talk about the picture. => Listen to the story and answer the questions:

What is Connor doing on Saturday evening?  =>  He’s having a small party to enjoy an evening on Halloween.

What is Connor’s plan for the evening? => They’ll probably watch a scary movie and tell each other some scary stories. 

What will Yusei ask Heather to do? => He’ll ask her to help him make a Halloween costume. 


Write down the questions. => Ask and answer in pairs. => Overlapping

(p. 86) Check ‘Grammar Practice’. 

(p. 86) Useful Chunks: Use the chunks to write sentences. 

1. 私は先週お父さんに本棚(a bookshelf)を作るのを手伝ってもらいました。

2. 姉は英語が得意なので、私は英語の宿題が終わったら彼女にチェックしてもらいます。(will)

3. 母は今朝彼らに冷蔵庫を直しに来てもらったと私に言いました。


  1. I had my father help me make a bookshelf last week.
  2. I’ll have my sister check my English homework when I finish it because she is good at English.
  3. My mother said she had them come and fix the fridge this morning.

 (p. 88-) Lesson 119  Halloween, then and now

Read the story and write the translation:

  1. People would wear costumes and light large fires.
  2. Irish people made Halloween well known in America. Jack-o’-lanterns were originally made from turnips, but in America, pumpkins were used.
