Lesson Report MEL-5 September 17, 2026

Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.

How are you doing?

This week's ELST Listening required inference again, but you are gradually getting more used to listening for what the speakers really mean, not just the words they say. We also checked some useful grammar and vocabulary and even learned a little about British tea culture from the conversation.

In Q Skills, we reached the final stage of Unit 2, “What is the best way to study?” We reviewed what we have learned about memory, multitasking, and neural connections, and started preparing for the Unit Assignment. This time, the important step was to connect what we learned in the unit with our own study habits.

See you next time!

Towako

ELST

Listening A2.2 #19

You first worked on the listening questions individually and then checked the conversations together.

Once again, some questions required inference. You couldn't always find the answer directly in one sentence. You had to understand the whole situation and think about what the speakers really meant.

These questions are challenging, but you are becoming more familiar with this type of listening!

We also checked important grammar and vocabulary from the conversations and practiced them through pair role-play.

Some of the conversations led us to interesting topics beyond the textbook, including British tea culture. Learning a language also means learning about the culture behind it!

Remember to write new words in My 練習帳 and review them later.

Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing Level 1

Unit 2: What is the best way to study?

Grammar: Simple Past with Regular and Irregular Verbs

(p. 38)

We reviewed the simple past by finding past-tense verbs in the text.

Then, instead of simply checking the grammar, you wrote a three-sentence summary of the text on Google Classroom.

The text reviewed an important idea from this unit: practice and recalling information help us build stronger memories.

We also completed sentences using the correct past forms of regular and irregular verbs and practiced them through pair repeating.

Unit Assignment — Write About How You Study

(pp. 39–40)

We returned to the Unit Question:

What is the best way to study?

Before starting the final writing assignment, we reviewed the major ideas we have explored throughout the unit:

Why are repetition and practice important for memory?

Why is multitasking bad for learning?

How do we make strong neural connections in our brain?

We also discussed a useful study method: after studying something, close the book and write down everything you can remember. Then open the book again and check what you remembered and what you missed.

This is different from simply reading the same information again. You are actively trying to retrieve the information from your memory.

Planning Your Writing

For the Unit Assignment, you began comparing:

How I studied before learning about the brain

How I am going to study better from now on

You used ideas from the readings, video, and activities in this unit to think about your own learning.

The goal is not just to write about what the textbook taught us. Think about:

What did I learn? → How does it relate to me? → What will I change?

You will use your ideas to plan and write the Unit Assignment.

Lesson Review

Today, we practiced:

  • making inferences while listening

  • learning vocabulary and expressions through context

  • using the simple past

  • summarizing information in our own words

  • reviewing what we learned about memory and effective studying

  • connecting new knowledge with our own study habits

  • planning a piece of writing using ideas from several sources

As we finish Unit 2, remember that the Unit Question is not just something to answer in a textbook.

Use what you learned to experiment with how you actually study.

Great work today! 🌟

Lesson Report Advanced September 16, 2026

Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.

How are you doing?

This week, we practiced both speaking spontaneously and thinking critically about information online.

In ELST, you listened to questions and responded before practicing the conversation in pairs. In Q Skills, we continued exploring misinformation and learned how signal words help readers follow the organization of ideas. We then applied what we had learned to a video about finding reliable information online.

The important question throughout the lesson was: How can we decide whether information is reliable instead of simply accepting what we see online?

See you next week!

Towako

ELST Speaking

B1.1 #1

You listened to the questions and answered them, and then practiced the conversation through pair role-play.

One of the questions was:

Would you like to visit Paris someday?

When speaking, don't worry about creating a perfect answer first. Listen carefully, understand the question, and respond with the English you already have.

The more often you practice responding without preparing a script, the easier it becomes to communicate your ideas naturally.

Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing 2

Unit 1: Communication and Media

Global Skills: Critical Thinking Strategy — Putting Ideas in Order

We learned about signal words and how they help us understand the organization of a text.

Signal words show us how ideas are connected and help us follow the writer's thinking.

In Exercise D, you completed a paragraph using appropriate signal words. You then completed another paragraph using vocabulary from the unit, including:

attention / fake / information / social media / check / headlines / reliable / spread

We also returned to the article and identified examples of misinformation.

At this level, don't focus only on individual sentences. Look for clues that tell you how the writer is organizing and connecting ideas.

Write What You Think

You discussed two questions:

What helps you identify fake news? How do you check information to be sure it is true?

Why do many people believe everything they read online?

You then chose one question and wrote your own response.

This is an important step in academic learning:

Understand the information → Think about it → Form your own idea → Express it clearly

The goal is not simply to repeat what the textbook says. Use what you have learned as evidence and background for your own thinking.

Video: Finding Facts Online

We watched the Unit Video and answered questions about its content.

You first typed your answers in the chat room and then checked them together.

Finally, with your textbooks closed, you wrote a summary of the video.

Writing a summary requires you to decide:

What is the main idea?
Which information is important?
How are the ideas connected?

You don't need to remember every sentence. Focus on understanding the content, organizing the key information, and reconstructing it in your own words.

Lesson Review

Today, we practiced:

  • responding to questions spontaneously

  • using signal words to follow the organization of ideas

  • identifying and thinking critically about misinformation

  • discussing how to check whether information is reliable

  • expressing our own ideas based on what we have learned

  • summarizing information without looking at the original text

As you read more advanced English, keep asking:

What is the main point? How are the ideas connected? What evidence supports them? Can I explain the ideas in my own words?

Great work today! 🌟

Lesson Report MEL-4 September 15, 2026

Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.

How are you doing?

See you next time!

中学生の基礎英語 Level 2(9月号)

Lessons 86–90

今週のストーリーをまとめて聞きながらNotesを取りました。

そのNotesを使って、ペアで1人2分ずつRetelling。最後は代表の生徒がみんなの前で発表しました。

MEL-4では、

Listen → Choose the key information → Organize → Retell

という流れを練習しています。

全部の英文を覚える必要はありません。「何が起きたのか」「何が大切なのか」を理解して、自分でストーリーを再現することを目指しましょう。

Bridge Work Book 2

Chapter 18 Unit 1: We must practice hard to win the match.

(p. 94) Exercise-2 — Writing Task

Examplesを確認したあと、今回はGoogle Classroomで自分自身について英文を書くWriting Taskに取り組みました。

書いた英文をクラスで共有し、それを読んだクラスメートからAdviceをもらいました。

Exampleを理解したり、Exerciseの答えを選んだりすることと、自分が伝えたいことを自分で英文にすることは大きく違います。

Writingには時間がかかりますが、

Think → Write → Share → Get feedback

を繰り返すことで、習った文法や表現を少しずつ自分で使える英語にしていきます。

Lesson Review

今日のレッスンの振り返りを書きました。

今回はWritingに時間をかけたため、予定していたすべてのActivityには進みませんでした。

でも、Outputには時間がかかって当然です。 英語を聞いたり読んだりして理解するだけでなく、自分で考えて、話したり書いたりする経験を毎回少しずつ積み重ねていきましょう。

「わかる」から「自分で使える」へ。

Great job today! 🌟
