Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This week's ELST Listening was quite challenging! You couldn't always find the answer by simply catching the words you heard. You needed to understand the whole conversation and infer what the speakers meant from the situation.
In Q Skills, we continued thinking about our own study habits and started a new Writing Skill: using but and so to connect ideas. These simple words help us explain our ideas more clearly.
See you next time!

ELST
Listening A2.2 #18
You first worked on the listening questions individually.
This time, several questions required inference. The answer was not always stated directly, so you had to listen to the conversation, understand the situation, and think about what the speakers meant.
This was quite challenging!
After checking the conversations together, we studied important grammar and vocabulary and practiced them through pair role-play.
When you find new words, remember to add them to My 練習帳 and review them later.
Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing Level 1
Unit 2: What is the best way to study?
Write What You Think
We continued thinking about the Unit Question by discussing:
What things interrupt you when you are studying?
What is one way you can learn English better?
You connected what we have learned in this unit about focus and multitasking with your own study habits and shared your ideas with your classmates.
Writing Skill: Writing Sentences with but and so
We learned how to connect two ideas using but and so.
but shows a contrast between two ideas, while so shows a result.
You first completed sentences with but or so, and then practiced combining two sentences into one. We also checked where to use a comma.
Finally, you completed these sentences with your own ideas:
I want to learn English, so I ...
I want to learn English, but I ...
and shared them on Google Classroom.
Writing becomes clearer when you show the relationship between your ideas. Think about whether you want to show a contrast or a result, and choose the right connector.
