Today, we worked on two different kinds of connections.
In ELST, we explored Yosemite and learned more about how its spectacular landscape was formed. After watching the video, we went beyond simply understanding the reading and considered a bigger question: Why do scientists investigate how the land became what it is today? What can we gain from understanding the past?
In Bridge Work, we continued working with relative pronouns, this time focusing on the objective case and practicing sentences that included different types of relative clauses. The goal is to move beyond identifying grammar patterns and become able to use them to connect ideas naturally.

Reading B2.1 #5: Yosemite
You first practiced reading the text individually and then talked with a partner about what you understood.
We also watched a video about Yosemite to build our background knowledge and connect the English text with images of the actual landscape.
After watching the video, you discussed a bigger question:
What can we gain when scientists investigate how the land became what it is today?
Why does it matter to understand events that happened thousands or even millions of years ago?
Reading at this level is not just about understanding vocabulary and grammar. Use what you read as a starting point to learn about the world and ask new questions.

Objective Relative Pronouns
We continued practicing relative clauses, this time focusing on objective relative pronouns.
After listening to and repeating the examples, you combined two sentences into one using relative pronouns and wrote your answers in the chat room.
For example:
Ron has a bike.
He bought it last year.
↓
Ron has a bike he bought last year.
You then worked on longer texts in which different kinds of relative clauses were mixed together.
At this stage, don't think only about rules such as subjective or objective. First understand what the sentence is trying to say, and then think about how the ideas are connected.
The goal is to become able to use relative clauses naturally when you need to add information and express more complex ideas.
