Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This week, we started ELST Speaking B1.2 and continued Unit 2: Psychology in Q Skills.
Our main focus was getting meaning from context—an essential reading skill that helps us understand unfamiliar vocabulary without immediately looking up every word.
We also explored how companies use colors to influence customers' feelings and perceptions. It was interesting to see how color choices can communicate a company's identity and values!
See you next week!

Q Skills for Success Reading and Writing 2
Unit 2: Psychology — How do colors affect our behavior?
Reading Skill: Getting Meaning from Context (p. 30)
We practiced guessing the meanings of unfamiliar words by examining the surrounding information.
Our target vocabulary included variety, nature, robe, uniforms, reliable, and shades.
For example:
variety: a range of different types
robe: a long, loose piece of clothing
reliable: someone or something you can depend on
We then checked our definitions using English-English dictionaries.
Context → Prediction → Dictionary Check
The goal is to develop the ability to understand words independently while reading.
Reading 2: Company Colors (pp. 31–32)
We reviewed vocabulary related to advertising and branding, including emotion, product, quality, responsible, steady, and trust.
Then we discussed familiar companies and explored how their brand colors communicate different messages.
Some examples from the article included:
Coca-Cola: Red suggests energy and excitement.
Emirates: Gold communicates richness and a sense of luxury.
Aramco: Blue and green suggest nature, stability, and responsibility.
Samsung: Blue helps communicate trust and quality.
We also discussed why warm colors may encourage quick purchasing decisions, while blue is often used by banks to suggest reliability.
These examples helped us understand how psychology can influence everyday business decisions.
