Hello, Class! This is Tomomi from MEL School.
Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This week, we started ELST Speaking B1.2 and continued Unit 2: Psychology in Q Skills.
Our main focus was getting meaning from context—an essential reading skill that helps us understand unfamiliar vocabulary without immediately looking up every word.
We also explored how companies use colors to influence customers' feelings and perceptions. It was interesting to see how color choices can communicate a company's identity and values!
See you next week!
Towako
We listened to the conversation, answered questions, and practiced pair role-play.
Unit 2: Psychology — How do colors affect our behavior?
Reading Skill: Getting Meaning from Context (p. 30)
We practiced guessing the meanings of unfamiliar words by examining the surrounding information.
Our target vocabulary included variety, nature, robe, uniforms, reliable, and shades.
For example:
variety: a range of different types
robe: a long, loose piece of clothing
reliable: someone or something you can depend on
We then checked our definitions using English-English dictionaries.
Context → Prediction → Dictionary Check
The goal is to develop the ability to understand words independently while reading.
We reviewed vocabulary related to advertising and branding, including emotion, product, quality, responsible, steady, and trust.
Then we discussed familiar companies and explored how their brand colors communicate different messages.
Some examples from the article included:
Coca-Cola: Red suggests energy and excitement.
Emirates: Gold communicates richness and a sense of luxury.
Aramco: Blue and green suggest nature, stability, and responsibility.
Samsung: Blue helps communicate trust and quality.
We also discussed why warm colors may encourage quick purchasing decisions, while blue is often used by banks to suggest reliability.
These examples helped us understand how psychology can influence everyday business decisions.

Lesson review
Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you doing?
This week, we continued Chapter 34 of Bridge Work -3, practicing present and past participles and relative clauses with prepositions.
We focused on understanding how ideas are connected and using these structures to express ourselves more naturally in English.
See you next week!
Towako
Chapter 34 Unit 2 — Grammar and Communication
1. Present and Past Participles (p. 139)
We practiced rearranging words to make meaningful sentences.
We heard a boy crying in the hall.
The police are searching for the diamonds stolen from the jewelers.
Remember that participles help us describe nouns and express relationships between actions.
2. Relative Clauses with Prepositions (pp. 139–140)
We learned how to combine sentences while keeping the necessary prepositions.
He's the teacher (who) I was talking about.
That's the house (that) I used to live in.
The prepositions about and in are essential because they complete the meaning of the verbs.
In Exercise-2, we practiced expressions such as wait for, talk with, look after, and prepare for.
3. Communication Practice
We used relative clauses to ask and answer questions about our own experiences.
Who is the person you can most easily talk to?
What is the music you want to listen to when you are excited or disappointed?
The goal was to use grammar to communicate meaningful information, not simply complete exercises.
Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you?
今週の「基礎英語」では、Lesson 120のお話を聞いてNotesを取り、場面を整理してからペアでRetellingをしました。最後は5分間で8文のSummaryを書く練習をしました。
Bridge Workでは、引き続きChapter 10で数えられる名詞、数えられない名詞の使い方を練習しましたね。今回のテーマは How many apples can you eat? です。
これまで学んできた表現を使った 2 min. Talk に加えて、someとanyの使い分けを学びました。
文法を理解するだけでなく、実際の会話で使いながら身につけていきましょう!
See you next week!
Towako
英語を聞きながらNotesを取り、先生と一緒に場面や出来事を整理しました。
その後、ペアでRetellingをして、最後は5分間で8文のSummaryを書きました。
Listen → Imagine → Retell → Write
Retellingでは、教科書の英文をそのまま暗記するのではなく、理解したストーリーを自分の英語で再現することが大切です。
Summaryでは、誰が何をしたのか、どのような順番で出来事が起こったのかを考えて、必要な情報を選びましょう。
Chapter 10 Unit 1: How many apples can you eat?
Exercise-1|2 min. Talk(p. 156)
例文を確認してからTalk Noteを作り、ペアで会話を練習しました。
2 min. Talkでは、一人が話し続けるのではなく、相手の話に適切に応答し、質問を重ねながら会話を続けることが目標です。
Ask → Answer → React → Ask More!
会話を続けるためには、相手の話をよく聞くことが欠かせません。
Grammar and Communication 2|some & any(p. 157)
今回は、someとany の基本的な使い分けを学びました。
例えば、
I have some apples.
Do you have any apples?
I don't have any apples.
基本的には、肯定文では some、疑問文や否定文では any を使うことが多いですね。
ただし、これは絶対的なルールではありません。相手に何かを勧めたり、肯定的な返事を期待したりするときには、疑問文でもsomeを使うことがあります。
Would you like some juice?
大切なのは、どのような場面で、何を伝えようとしているのかを考えることです。
例文を聞いて意味をつかみ、口頭で再現してからChat Roomに英文を入力しました。
Exercise-2|Conversation Practice
someとanyを使った問題に取り組み、答えを確認したあと、ペアでRole-playをしました。
さらに、一人2分ずつのTalkにも取り組みました。
文法を知っているだけでなく、会話の中で必要な表現を自分で選んで使えることを目指しましょう。
Grammar and Communication 3|Verbs to Learn #17(p. 158)
新しい動詞表現を練習しました。
まず教科書を閉じてListen and Repeat。その後、空欄を完成させ、最後に英文を見ながら音声と一緒に読みました。
Listen → Reproduce → Check
聞いた英語を意味と結びつけ、自分で再現できるようにしていきましょう。
英検4級|問題1 実践対策① Part 9
リスニング問題に取り組み、Google ClassroomでSTTを行いました。
今週は、英語を再現する力と、会話を続ける力を中心に練習しました。
2 min. Talkでは、正しい英文を作ることに加えて、相手の答えを受けて次の質問につなげることが重要です。
Understand → Reproduce → Communicate!
これからも、学んだ表現を自分の言葉として使えるようにしていきましょう。
Great job today! 🌟
お知らせ
10月28日は、19:30から合同レッスンを行います。開始時刻に注意してください。
Hello, Class! This is Towako from MEL School.
How are you?
今週のPhonicsでは、une・ube・ule の音を復習し、ペアでQuizをしました。
「基礎英語」では、運動会の場面を聞きながら、登場人物の気持ちや会話の流れを確認しました。
今回は特に、過去形・現在進行形・省略表現に注目しました。文法を単独で覚えるのではなく、会話の中でどのような意味を表しているのかを考えることが大切です。
Bridge Workでは、Ronの部屋についての会話を復習し、Key Communicationの英文を書く練習をしました。
See you next week!
Towako
Long Vowels #3
dune, June, tune, prune, cube, tube, mule, rule
音とスペリングのつながりを復習し、ペアでQuizをしました。
単語を一文字ずつ読むのではなく、une・ube・ule を音のまとまりとして認識することがポイントです。
Lesson 115|Listen and Remember
Shadowingで前回までのお話を復習しました。
Lesson 116|運動会だ!
絵を見て、Kenの様子を英語で表現しました。
How does Ken look?
— He looks excited.
look + 形容詞 で「〜のように見える」という意味になります。
次に、お話を聞いて内容を確認しました。
Is Tomisaka Ken good at sports?
— No, he isn't.
Can American Ken run fast in the race?
— No, he can't.
その後、Listen and Repeat、Listen and Read、Role-playで会話を練習しました。
Lesson 117|わかってるって
Hinakoの様子を確認しました。
How does Hinako look?
— She looks very angry.
会話を読みながら、次の3つの文法ポイントを確認しました。
① 過去形:was / won
am / is → was
win → won
過去の出来事を話すときには、動詞の形が変わります。
② 現在進行形:be動詞 + -ing
Tomisaka Ken is changing.
I'm growing up!
ここでは、変化や成長が進んでいることを表しています。
③ 省略表現:I will.
I will.
この文では、前の会話からわかる play like your Ken が省略されています。
英語では、すでにわかっている内容を繰り返さず、省略することがあります。
前後の文脈から、何が省略されているのかを考えることがReadingやListeningでも重要になります。
最後は会話をノートに写して、英文を確認しました。
Chapter 2 Unit 1: His eyes are blue.
Grammar in Use|Ron's Room(p. 35)
Ronの部屋にあるものについての会話をRole-playで復習しました。
身の回りのものを説明したり、相手に質問したりするときの表現を確認しました。
Key Communication(p. 36)
Key Communicationの英文をノートに書く練習をしました。
英文を書くときには、語順や単数・複数、be動詞の使い方などにも注意しましょう。
意味を理解する → 英文を思い出す → 正確に書く
この練習を繰り返すことで、知っている表現を自分で使える英語にしていきます。
